SC Stays Key Provisions of Waqf Amendment Act, Muslim Bodies Hail Relief

The Supreme Court of India on Monday stayed two provisions of the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, while ruling that the entire law can be suspended only in “rarest of rare” cases. The bench put on hold the clause requiring a person to be a Muslim for five years to create a Waqf, and capped non-Muslim members in Waqf boards and the Central Waqf Council at three. Muslim bodies, including AIMPLB and AISPLB, welcomed the order as “significant relief” but said they still expect complete justice in the final judgment.
