Kashmir Apple Relief: Railway Initiative Reduces Transport Congestion

The Railway Minister announced a project to establish a parcel train service to transport apples from the southern Kashmir region to Delhi. This initiative is intended to alleviate the logistical challenges currently facing orchardists in the area. Hundreds of trucks, carrying approximately ₹200 crore in apple produce, have been stranded due to the closure of the Srinagar-Jammu national highway due to landslides caused by recent heavy rains. The railway ministry anticipates the parcel train will significantly reduce transportation costs and time for the region’s agricultural sector. The project’s implementation involves securing land routes and establishing a dedicated railway network.
