Coastguard officials reported a capsizing of approximately sixty-nine migrants aboard a vessel off the coast of Mauritania earlier this week. The incident occurred late Tuesday after the boat’s passengers observed lights from a town approximately 50 miles north of Nouakchott. Officials stated that the vessel overturned, resulting in several individuals drowning. The coastguard confirmed the event and is investigating the circumstances leading to the accident. Rescue efforts are underway to recover any remaining survivors.
